Oh baby! Baby showers are big news and for good reason too. Once an American tradition, baby showers have well and truly hit UK shores, with 2 out of 3 British mums-to-be* now hosting a pre-baby celebration - filled with fun, games and girly get-togethers. Not sure what they are or if you should have one/ organise one for the mum-to-be in your life? Here’s why we love baby showers:
It’s a chance to celebrate the imminent arrival
Whether mum-to-be is expecting her first bundle of joy or her fifth, it’s a very exciting time thinking about the little person growing inside her - what will he or she look like? Who will they take after? Who might they become? In the last few months, as the whole family anticipates the pitter patter of tiny feet, baby showers provide a lovely opportunity to get everyone together before baby arrives and celebrate them, before life gets busy! Think of them as a pre-baby hen party, just with non-alcoholic cocktails...
There are no set baby shower rules
Speaking of hen parties, just like with a pre-wedding party, a baby shower can be tailored to each mum-to-be. If mum’s an outgoing kind of girl, she might want want to do a gender reveal - where she announces if her little one is a boy or a girl (one of the most fun ways to do this is with a giant balloon kit, guaranteed to add a BANG to proceedings) and get everyone laughing with fun games. Or for a more relaxed afternoon, mum might prefer a pretty tea party, filled with gorgeous decorations (our pastel pom poms, fabulous fabric bunting and swoon-worthy giant gold Love balloons are especially perfect for stylish afternoon tea-inspired baby showers!) and plenty of cake. We love that each baby shower is unique - just like the mum-to-be and her baby!
Mum gets ‘showered’ with love… and gifts!
Perhaps our most favourite reason yet - while yes, the baby shower is celebrating the soon-to-be-born-baby, it’s also a chance to ‘shower’ the mum-to-be with love, support and some gorgeous gifts (we love this ‘Mama, you got this’ pouch!), before baby arrives. After all, we all know what a life-changing experience becoming a mum can be and how during those first few months, most conversations will either be baby-focused or interrupted by feeds, nappy changes and contented gurgles. Baby showers focus attention on mum and sets her off on her new journey, with love, support and practical yet pretty gifts that’ll help her along the way.
